MAMA IN CONGRESS now available nationwide

Miranda Paul’s newest book collaboration, Mama in Congress: Rashida Tlaib’s Journey to Washington, is now available. The nonfiction picture book chronicles the personal and political journey of Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, the first of two Muslim woman elected to Congress. The narrative is told through the voice and lens of Tlaib’s son and co-author Adam Tlaib, and centered her children’s curiosity about their Mama’s new job and the campaign process. The book idea originated from questions her kids had, such as: “Hey, is the president Mom’s boss now?”

Miranda Paul, Rashida Tlaib, Adam Tlaib, and illustrator Olivia Aserr announced that the book sets out to address questions many kids may have—from how elections and the government work to what it means to “break barriers” as a woman of color.

Booklist hailed it a “fun, informative picture-book biography” that is “This is a great addition to collections showcasing women diversifying Congress and a fun way to talk to kids about the ways anyone can make a change in the world if they set their heart to the task.” Kirkus called it “a welcome notice that our government is increasingly diversifying.”
